A Light in the Darkness
Strength, durability and resolve are traits possessed by these people that dwell beneath the lands surface. Once members of the ancient civilization these people chose to dwell underground and away from petty squabbles and uncompromising rules. Years spent away from the surface, in tight underground areas have caused them to change over the generations. Less upright then their above land kin, the Dwarves have grown into shorter, stockier bodies with strong backs and short legs.
In the time following the years of fire, where the land above them was melted and crystallized the Dwarves were also driven from their homes and underground strongholds by the molten rock and glass. From the rubble these people found a new ore to mine, new jewels to unearth and another trade good that was craved by their larger kin.
When they first came out in force over a thousand years ago, the people on the surface had not seen the physical changes the Dwarves had undergone. They were surprised and even hostile, though the Dwarves harbored no ill will. Over time the two groups have mended this relationship and Dwarves are welcome in all Parishes and villages, though they are expected to follow the rules and the laws of the Watchers. The Dwarves have no hatred for their taller brothers and even go out of their way to provide for them in times of need.
